On our last trip in July, we stayed at this elephant camp for four days and three nights. We slept there at the elephant camp and had open access to all of the elephants all of the time. We walked among the 65 elephants late at night and were there for their morning baths in the river.

It would be impossible for her to create art under stress and pain. The only possible way for this to happen would be a soul-like connection between her and her trainer.

Google it, its been proven to be true. This isn't the only elephant that can paint.

Noi, the trainer for this elephant, Hong, talks to her continuously while she is painting. They have a wonderful relationship as they collaborate in creating this art.Hong has never been mistreated. Any type of mistreatment or coercion is counterproductive to the fine motor control needed to produce this art.

It appears that the trainer standing next to her is guiding her trunk through touch. It's still amazing but I hope they didn't put her under a bunch of stress or threaten her with pain in order to teach her this ability. That is how they usually train elephants after all.
