I'm from the U.K and I remember when the police hit in the late 1970's. At that time in the UK reggae was huge. At the same time punk rock which was also massive fused to become SKA. SKA's influence ( see The Specials, English Beat, Selecta, Madness) can still be heard today with bands like No Doubt and The Artic Monkeys
