The APU flap looks like it is indeed open.From the radio comments, they left the number 1 engine running, and with one engine running, they should be able to keep everything up and running. They might have fired it up (the APU) in case they were required for some reason to shut down their other engine.

KDAY24: there are at least 3 famous crash that i know of that involves a 757. 2 because of the pitot tube problem which led to crew crash the plane. One is Aeroperu 603, the other is ALW301. And one because the crew of American 965 flew the plane into mountains due to the mishandling of FMC
