Nice notes, Maxcat. Thanks. Always loved this song, too.

The most interesting thing about this tune is its' writer, Steve Goodman, lived in Chicago, and loved the Cubs so much that somehow someone managed to get his ashes buried under home base at Wrigley Field when he died. He composed folk history and sang it's truths any place that would have him to anyone who would listen. It took Arlo Guthrie, the son of the dustbowl Hobo who sang us out of the Depression, to get the feel of this song right. No one else has. Woody still is beaming with pride.

Terrific song about the railroad and what happened when the Great Stock Market crash in 1929.

And I'll be seeing in the New Year on it, catching the departure from Chicago on New Year's Eve, headin' to New Orleans for a week's holiday and some great music.

thanks, but you don´t really know the problems that younger people like me have to stand ,understand(or not understand)and live with. youth has changed. people have changed.I really begin to hate the youth, everyone is getting more stupid, nobody knows nothing about something that really counts like history or some good old music. the music of today is produced for the mass ,because it´s easier to sell, in earlier times music was just produced, and the mass just liked it.

Amtrak does have a line called "City of New Orleans", but you're right; much character was lost. I'm glad we still have this song to remind us.

The City of New Orleans is still running. I'm going on it the first part of December to Chicago. I can't wait.

I was about your age when this song came out. It was a very different time, but we faced the same problems as all young people do. always look forward , son or daughter, and just enjoy this wonderful music ! AJ...thanks for posting one of my faves. Kc.
